اسمحوا لي أقدّم نفسي بهدوء:
أنا الحرفوش الصغير.. أعمل في تصليح أحذية الكبار والصغار.. وأصحاب الكروش والجيوش.. والغلابة والمترفين...
المهمّ، في يوم من الأيّام جاءني حذاء كبير جداً.. جدّاً جدّاً.. وكان سكني قرب النيل.. ماذا أفعل؟ قرّرت أعمل من هذا الحذاء مركباً سياحيّاً.. لمدّة بسيطة طبعاً.. أعرف أنّ معي خمسة أيام.. لأنّي وعدتُ صاحبه أسبوعاً كاملاً.. فحذاؤه يحتاج إلى جهد ووقت.. وإلى قطع تبديل نادرة...
نزلتُ في الحذاء على شطّ النيل.. وصنعتُ من عيدان الأيس كريم ستة مجاديف.. اثنان لي.. واثنان للشاب.. واثنان للصبيّة التي ستأتي معه..
انتظرتُ.. وانتظرتُ.. وفجأةً جاءتني سيّدة غاية في الجمال.. ومعها كلب.. نعم كلب صغير لونه أبيض على بنّي.. رحّبتُ بها.. وقلت لها:
- يا سيّدتي.. مركبنا سياحي عجائبي.. ولكنّه يحتاج إلى عضلات للتجديف.
قالت لي: عضلاتي جاهزة..
نزلتْ إلى المركب.. الحذاء الخاصّ.. وما أن وضعت رجلها حتى انقلب رأساً على قفا.. وصرتُ في وضع لا أُحسَد عليه..
هجم الكلب.. وسحب صاحبته!.. وجرّها إلى الشاطئ من جديد.. وبقيتُ أتخبّط في المياه.. نسيتُ أن أقول لكم أنني لا أعرف العوم.. 
صاحت بي: إذا دفعْتَ لي 200 جنيهاً أنقذك..
قلتُ لها: أنقذيني أوّلاً.. ثمّ أدفع لكِ ما تطلبين.
أجابتْني: إذا لم يكن معكَ فلوس سأحتجزكَ وآخذكَ إلى بيتي تخدم (سوسو)..
سألتُها: ومن هو (سوسو) بسلامته؟
قالت: كلبي المدلّل الذي أنقذني..
وهكذا.. مضى عليّ أكثر من عشر سنوات وأنا أخدم سوسو بأكلي وشربي فقط.. ولم أستطع ادّخار مليم واحد..
وتركتُ الحذاء في النهر..
ومنذ ست سنوات لمحني صاحب الحذاء الضخم الفخم.. فطالبني به.. وعندما قلتُ له ما حصل ضربني.. ولم أستطع أن أتخلّص منه إلاّ عندما تدخّل ابن (سوسو)... نسيت أن أقول لكم: طلعت الكلبة (سوسو) أنثى وولدتْ أربعة كلاب.. وصرت خادم الأسرة الكلبيّة الكريمة كلها..
